I teach History at an independent girls school in California. I’ve spent most of my career teaching world history, and that tends to flavor my posts, but I also teach U.S. History and Art History from time to time, as well as any number of random electives. I have the luxury of teaching in a school with small classes, strong students, and a high tolerance for experimentation.
I believe the best teaching is both reflective and instinctive, and I think that paradox is what makes teaching eternally fresh. These pages are my attempt to clarify–for myself, first–why I do what I do in the classroom and–the teacher’s perpetual question–what I might do better next time around. One of the wonderful things about teaching is that there’s always next year!
I hope you will respond to my thoughts with your own; please leave me a comment letting me know what you think. I’ve posted some lesson plans and other materials here: Gallery and here. I hope you find them useful in some way–if you try them, please let me know how they worked in your classroom.
