What’s a History Test?

History teachers have lots of cheerful arguments about assessments these days (projects? essays? tests?), but one thing everyone seems to take for granted in the conversations I’ve been in is what a history test looks like. In a time of great change in our field, the test conversation seems mired in two camps:  multiple choice or essay tests.

It might be time to take a longer look at that. Continue reading
